'tent' is… an informal community that provides an innovative approach to exploring and expressing jewish identity. 'tent' is fully inclusive and welcomes all jews and their friends to events that reflect the many ways in which jewish identity can be expressed in a modern society, outside of the four walls of a synagogue or as a complement to synagogue membership.
'tent' is… run by young(ish) adults. it is a non-judgmental group i.e. we do not care about 'good' and 'bad' jews, just jews and their friends. we therefore do things differently, in a way in which we believe is appropriate to a generation that has largely been absent from our congregations. we want people to define themselves and their judaism, not us label them.
'tent: the meeting place' is…a friday night experience like no other: a fully participative, candle-lit spiritual experience complete with a mix of modern and traditional music, open discussion and socialising in a local restaurant. we meet at 7pm every second friday of every month at 21 maple street, w1t 4be, and at 6:45pm every fourth friday at the liberal jewish synagogue in st. john’s wood and at 6:30pm every first friday at finchley progressive synagogue.
'tent: the meeting place' is… spreading across the London and the whole country. services and other events now take place in birmingham, manchester, brighton, edinburgh and many other locations.
'tent b'ivrit' is a Kabbalat Shabbat experience conducted exclusively in hebrew and led by our Young Adults Worker, Avivit, and our shlicha (emissary from Israel), Noa. Click here for details about our next ‘tent b’ivrit’.
‘tent: getaway’ is… a full weekend programme that takes place in different locations every three-four months. it includes services, workshops, outdoor activities, singing, lots of eating and always a party on the saturday night!
‘tent: experience’ is… a range of ad hoc events, including cultural outings to film, theatre and concerts, social gatherings around the country and diverse educational and creative opportunities. It is your chance to explore every facet of jewish life.
