Rabbi Harry Jacobi
I was born in Berlin in 1925 and came to London from Holland on the Kindertransport (the evacuation of nearly 10,000 mainly Jewish children from Nazi Germany to Britain).
I arrived in London in 1940, and was ordained as a Liberal Rabbi in 1961. I served as Rabbi of Southgate Synagogue for 19 years from 1956 to 1975.
I have worked at several other synagogues in London (Harrow and Wembley Liberal Synagogue, South Bucks Jewish Community), as well as a seven year stint as a Rabbi in Zurich, and spent 10 years as the Chair of the Rabbinic Board – one of the main decision making bodies in the organisation.
I am Vice President of Liberal Judaism.
I recently celebrated my 80th birthday with a party at Southgate Liberal Synagogue, attended by people who belonged to the congregation when I worked there, plus current members.
