Liberal Judaism - Rabbinic Conference

Rabbinic Conference

Welcome to the web-page of the Rabbinic Conference of Liberal Judaism. The Rabbinic Conference members are the rabbis of Liberal Judaism congregations, as well as associate members, rabbis who wish to identify with the aims and objectives of Liberal Judaism. We meet once a month at the Montagu Centre and hold an annual Kallah (study retreat).

Among our activities are:

- religious aspects of life cycle events, e.g. new approaches to celebrations of birth; ceremonies for civil partnerships and prayers for mixed faith weddings.

- through the Rabbinic Board of three rabbis, (chaired by Rabbi Thomas Salomon with our members taking turns to serve on it) overseeing conversion to Judaism and the confirmation of Jewish status.

- publications, especially:
liturgy - Siddur Lev Chadash and Machzor Ruach Chadashah were produced by our rabbis, together with lay members of the movement. The Haggadah is currently being revised, pamphlets e.g. the 'Liberal Jewish Values' and 'Liberal Judaism in Practice' series.

- work with other groups, e.g. the Assembly of Reform Rabbis

- consideration of ethical and social issues and response to public consultations as they arise.

In all of these activities we work closely with the lay leaders of Liberal Judaism, as has always been the practice in our movement. Indeed, the Rabbinic Conference Chair is an officer of Liberal Judaism and attends the monthly officers¹ meeting.

Should you require any further information of have any questions for our rabbis, you are welcome to contact the Chair, Rabbi Pete Tobias at:
